Religions an BeliefsWorpship of the Gods
Religions in Runeterra are largely varied in every nation but several have been known to gather the most of followers. The commonly known ones are The Lamb and Wolf, whereas some nations believe more in the Lamb and some more in the Wolf, The Veiled Lady with their strongest followers in the demacian area and some other deities, The Mother Serpent commonly known in the Serpent Isles, The Church of the Glorious Evolved which is strong in the two city-states Piltover and Zaun. The Cult of the Three Sisters is monitored by the Frostguard and has a huge influence over many tribes in the Freljord. The Disciples of the Armordillo have some influence over northern Shurima.
Less known Religions are the Solari and Lunari, which is limited to the very isolated Mount Targon. While the Solari are clearly dominating, the Lunari are barely known and only few. Some few southern Shurima tribes praise The Great Weaver.
Furthermore, there are some cults which don't really enjoy much popularity and is only known to their members. These are The Cult of the Spider and The Cult of the Void.

The Kindred
For as long as its people have known death, Kindred has stalked Valoran. When the final moment comes, it is said a true Demacian will turn to Lamb, taking the arrow, while through the shadowed streets of Noxus, Wolf leads the hunt. In the snows of the Freljord, before going off to fight, some warbands 'kiss the Wolf', vowing to honour his chase with the blood of their enemies. After each Harrowing, the town of Bilgewater gathers to celebrate its survivors and honour those granted a true death by Lamb and Wolf. Kindred waits for those locked in the undeath of the Shadow Isles, for they know all will eventually fall to Lamb's bow or Wolf's teeth. The earliest dated appearance of the eternal hunters is from a pair of ancient masks, carved by unknown hands into the gravesites of people long-forgotten.

There are many different names and representations of The Kindred, such as Ina and Ani, Farya and Wolyo, Eternal Hunters, Two Hunters, they are displayed as a Gazelle and a Hyena in Shurima, in Ionia a Snake and a Sparrow, a bloody-antlered stag and sleek rabbit or  a rose and a bee.

The Primal Gods
They are manifestations of cultural ideas, given immense power by the belief of their followers. They can wax and wane, depending - or disappear for a long, long time. They are usually depicted as they appear in the Freljord because this is where they are the most revered, worshiped, culturally important, and arguably appear the most. They may have different forms (which may exist simultaneously) across Runeterra and often look different but still connect to the same source energy. Sometimes they are also referred to has Spiritgods, Demigods or Firstborn.

Unlike a handful of other deities worshiped throughout Runeterra's different cultures, the Freljordian gods are physical real beings that manifest as spiritual animals and each was conceived from some transcendental force that bonds them together like siblings. However most of these divine spirits have faded into obscurity over the eons, as the Freljord has dissolved into warring factions and tribal splinters.

Where some legends are still being shared, those stories have been misinterpreted far beyond any recollected truth and many times have fellow Freljordians engaged in brutal conflict over their religious conjecture, from drunken bar brawls to merciless wars. Now the only demi-gods to be remembered have been those few who still actively interact with their worshipers.

Of them, only Volibear, the Thousand-Pierced Beast (embodying war and battle) is known to actively influence their worshippers, but other Spirits that fall in this category are Ornn, the Firebringer (representing forging and craftsmanship), Anivia, the Frostbringer (standing for freedom and hope), The Seal Sister, which name and concept has been forgotten, and The Boar-God.

The Spirit of Ionia
Even though Ionia has a number of cultures, each with their own interpretation of the world and their place on it, one thing remains consistent across the provinces: the worship to the Spirit of Ionia. Being the spiritual embodiment of the First Lands themselves, it's influence can be seen on the entire continent, by the relationship between the spirits and material beings living there.
Or so it was, until Noxus attacked. While many still look out for the will of the Spirit, many beliefs have been challenged and old traditions denied. And the future of Ionia remains to be seen.

Seen as the manifestation of this god is Karma, a soul many times reincarnated with visions of the past and wisdom to guide the future. Currently, Karma is reincarnated in a girl named Dahra, who is in her late twenties. Her previous reincarnation was a man named Jakgri, who gave up his lover Watai for his duty as Karma.

The Great WeaverThe worship of the goddess of fate. Some few Shuriman tribes, being a nomadic and simple people, have prayed to her for guidance and help in their daily lives and needs, and give and protect those in her favour. She is said to weave the threads of each and every things' fate into a magnificent tapestry, designating what has been and what shall come to be. Taliyah, the Stoneweaver is said, by her tribe elders, to have been given her powers over the earth by the Great Weaver herself, many natural talents are said to be gifts from the Great Weaver and a dance beneath the moon is a tradition meant to reveal those gifts.

Demacian Pantheon: Sisters of Justice
There is a multitude of deities worshipped in Demacia. Two of which is known as The Sisters of Justice. The first sister is known as The Protector who represents the very appearance of the nation and inspired the nation's laws, traditions, and politics, and view her as a manifestation of hope, valour, perseverance, and justice. The second sister is known as The Veiled One or The Veiled Lady, who embodies mercy and atonement while some view her as an embodiment of mystery and judgement: the Demacians pray the deceased find a safe passage to her shortly after death.

The Protector & The Veiled One: Embodied by Kayle and Morgana, these two deities are very real but their identities are long forgotten. While Morgana is still around Demacia, hidden and in secrecy, Kayle left Demacia after their battle in Zafira and returned to Targon.

The Mother Serpent
The worship of the goddess of motion, Nagakabouros. Originating from the Serpent Isles, now known as the Blue Flame Islands, Nagakabouros still remains the reigning deity in Bilgewater. Her church is now led by her chosen Truth Bearer, Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess. The religion highly demands that you follow your desires, and make your own fate, one of the primary reasons why this faith's presence remains strong today.

Nagakabouros: Central to Buhru culture is Nagakabouros—god of life, growth, and perpetual motion. Also known as the Mother Serpent, the Great Kraken, or the Bearded Lady, she is commonly depicted as an enormous, monstrous head with many spiralling tentacles.

The Church of the Glorious EvolvedThe Church is celebrated in both Piltover and Zaun. The Glorious Evolution, views of flesh as inferior to that of steel and metal, has gathered most of the followers among the people of Zaun and has spread among other nations. An amalgamation of flesh or the total replacement of it had marked his works, incorporating techmaturgy to purge the weakness and inefficiency of the flesh. For as long as they exist, the day of the world replaced by beings of weaponized steel and metal becomes clearer with each passing day. The church gathered fragments of Viktor's philosophy and see him as a messianic figure, but Viktor couldn’t care less for them, viewing their quasi-religious cult as an aberration; another reason to eliminate emotional foibles and the belief in that which could not be empirically proven.

The Solari
The worship of the Sun as the source of all life. The dominant religious group on Mount Targon, the Solari believe the sun is the source of all life. To them, all other light sources are false, and a threat to the future of their people. On the slopes of Mount Targon is the Solari temple, where disciples are taught the scriptures of their faith. Their warrior-templars, the Ra'Horak, practice for years under the harshest conditions so they can defend the land against invading armies and execute heretics with divine righteousness. Leona the Radiant Dawn is their current leader, as she has received the blessing from the Sun itself.

The Lunari
The worship of the Moon. An ancient underground sect, the Lunari worship the holy light of the silvery moon. They practice their beliefs in secret, hiding from the Solari who seek to expel the Lunari from the mountain forever. Some say that long ago, the two groups coexisted, living in peace and worshiping the many celestial bodies as one people.

The Cult of the Three Sisters The cult behind the most prominent religion in Frejord, it's ranks are composed by Iceborn trained to be the most zealous servants of the Freljord, with unbreakable loyalty towards Lissandra, who is believed to be a living saint spreading eternal, cold wisdom through her followers. In truth, Lissandra is actually one of the Three Sisters, who live to this day with her immortality given by the Watchers, she is the true founder of the cult and secretly uses it to keep her secrets buried and manipulate Freljordian society and culture.
Yearly, three warriors of the Frostguard are chosen to climb down the Howling Abyss to check in the runic prisons holding back the Watchers of any signs of melting and giving away.

The term Frostguard can be used when referring to the cult, though it is predominantly used when referring to the warriors who guard their ancient, holy citadel on the far north.

The Cult of the SpiderThe Cult of the Spider has most of its followers located in Noxus. The champion, Elise, serves as its High Priestess, travelling to and from between the two nations and the Shadow Isles, bringing her followers to live with the Spider God, Vilemaw, for eternity, or so they believe. That cult has strong ties with the Black Rose.

Vilemaw: Resembling that of an arachnid spider whose grotesque mass is furred and scabbed with wet, mutant growths. This unearthly horror is a monstrous creature that looms in the darkest pits beneath the Shadow Isles. Its true origin completely unknown, save for the assumption that the spider god is an irregular life-form not originally from the Isles.

Having great physical strength as well as magical, this entity has remained unscathed by the Black Mist, and even capable of dispelling it to some extent. With this Vilemaw has established its own dark domain upon the Isles and nesting thousands of spiderlings unhindered by haunting wraiths.
Centuries ago, Vilemaw was encountered upon by a lone Noblewoman seeking an artifact to restore her natural beauty. She is the High Priestess since that day.

The Disciples of the ArmordilloThe Disciples of the Armordillo is by far the only cult that does not have any detriments. The cult revolves around the champion Rammus, whom they believe to be a god, Ascended, oracle, or something along those lines. Disciples yearly conduct ceremonies in Nashrame wherein they will imitate his famous roll, and somersault across their respective cities in droves. Many pilgrims roam the desert, in the hopes that they will find him and answer a single question. Knowing his cravings for sweets, they often fill all of their caravans with treats and sweets, usually finding their caravans exhausted of it all first thing in the morning.

The Tithe‘The Tithe’ is a superstition as opposed to a full religion of belief, but most sailors religiously observe it in Bilgewater. It is said that when a ship sets out to sail, the captain must make an offering to the sea (or some say to Nagakabouros) or risk the sea claiming the ship. Sailors usually keep a coin on their person just in case a tithe needs paying.

Cautionary tales warn of a salvage diver named Nautilus, who was dragged under the ocean and transformed into a monster when his captain refused to pay the tithe.

The Cult of the VoidThe Cult of the Void is a cult that first began when Malzahar claimed that Runeterra will be salved by the Void. Its followers do sacrifices to the nothingness below, hoping that this keeps the holy fury of the Void in check.

Preservers of ValoranNot really a cult, but rather a movement. Kassadin and Kai'Sa are part of it, trying to prevent the Void to take over Runeterra.
